Spalten
The first value-added step is splitting. We split approx. 6 meter long bar steel (dimensions: 180*12, 150*10, 130*8; main material: 1.4116), turning it into a split piece in which the contour of the end product can already be seen.
Schmieden
We still forge in the traditional way, using a belt drop hammer to fully forge the knife blanks made of stainless steel (1.4116) in a die.
Glühen
Annealing after forging of steels with a higher carbon content (material 1.4116 >0.35% C) is absolutely necessary for further processing.
Stanzen
Punching is a separating process. A punching device consists of two tool parts – a holder for punches and a holder for dies.
Lochen
The perforation of the knife blanks in the handle area serves to connect two handle shells with drill and pin rivets.
Härten
At Julius Kirschner & Sohn, the heat treatment is carried out by quenching in oil.
Due to the rapid cooling rate and the oil medium, our blanks are particularly resistant to corrosion.
Anlassen
All stainless steels will also always be deep freeze treated and tempered.
After tempering, the blanks have a hardness of 56 +- 1
Abrichten
The hardened blanks are trued to ensure the blanks are straight.
In the last step, the blades are checked for blade and handle straightness.
Kontrolle
The hardened blanks are trued to ensure the blanks are straight.
In the last step, the blades are checked for blade and handle straightness.
